Visual Basic
2005 Books and Resources
If you are looking for a starting
point to learn
Visual Basic 2005 (VB2005), we recommend
the following books and
tutorials. People have different
learning styles. Some like to read and practice, others learn better by watching
videos, and others like to follow
step by step instructions. In this section, we provide you with a selection of all of
these
approaches. Good luck and happy learning.
1. Visual Basic 2005 software
To get started, you should install
Microsoft
Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition on your machine. Or, you can dowload the
more recent version
Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition.
What this means for you is that you can use VB2005 books, which get cheaper as
more VB2008 books are published. On the other hand, VB2005 books will not
address features that are supported in VB2008, such as LINQ.
2. Web resources
Creating Your First Visual Basic Program
This is a nice and short tutorial
to get you started with Visual Basic 2005.
3. Videos
Absolute Beginner’s Video Series

These videos are excellent for someone just starting out with Visual Basic 2005.
The videos are produced by Bob Tabor from LearnVisualStudio.NET. To access 500+ additional videos
on VB.NET, C#.NET, ASP.NET, and Visual Studio, we recommend you subscribe to LearnVisualStudio.NET.

evaluate their videos risk-free.

4. Books
/strong>
Book 1
Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Step by Step
This is a good starting point for new programmers, or programmers who have been away from programming for a while.
The book uses VB2005.
Book 2
Programming in Visual Basic.NET 2005 Edition
This book would be on our priority
list as a textbook for a course on Visual Basic 2005. It is also an excellent resource
for someone with some programming
experience. The strong point of this book is that each chapter concludes with a
complete application that covers the material covered in that chapter.
Book 3
Starting Out with Visual Basic 2005

This is another good book. The book
uses step by step tutorials to guide the students through the development of the
examples in the book. You can checkout the
student resources online web pages. They include the code
for each of
the chapters,
powerPoint preseantations, and other resources.
